Update – over the weekend Tomos Lewis suffered a heart attack and had emergency surgery on Sunday evening. He is now recovering and money is being raised to support the British Heart Foundation, alongside Big Moose and Safe Foundation. If you have any pennies please donate them to these charities; they’re all amazing causes.
Nearly two decades ago, Tomos Lewis first heard Stephen Fretwell’s ‘Run’—a song best known as “the song from the end of Gavin and Stacey.” For Tomos, however, it became much more than a TV soundtrack. It was a source of comfort and inspiration through his life’s ups and downs. Now, Tomos and fellow musician Caitlin Lavagna have reimagined the track, releasing it on 13th November to raise awareness for two Cardiff-based charities, Big Moose and The SAFE Foundation.
In 2007, Tomos left his hometown of Dolgellau for Cardiff, eager to expand his musical horizons. Though he found early success, his journey took a darker turn as he battled anxiety, depression, and loneliness, eventually stepping away from music. During this time, he faced homelessness twice.
After a period performing in the French Alps, Tomos returned to Cardiff, where he found a turning point in organising a successful event for Big Moose—a charity providing mental health support. This helped reignite his passion for music and rebuild his confidence. Today, Tomos is sober, healthy, and writing new music, with plans for releases in 2025.

Music with a Mission
“‘Run’ has been with me for 20 years,” Tomos explained. “It’s not just a song from Gavin and Stacey. It’s a stunning piece of art that’s been a companion through my journey. Recording it felt like the right way to honour its meaning in my life.”
The new version of ‘Run’ is a true collaboration. Caitlin Lavagna’s powerful vocals and drumming elevate the track, and producer Tobias Robertson dedicated his time to crafting the sound. Gethin John, who mastered Tomos’ first EP, contributed his expertise.
Tomos hopes the track will inspire people to support the invaluable work of Big Moose and The SAFE Foundation. Both charities provide life-changing resources—whether through mental health support or projects to uplift marginalised communities worldwide.
“Special thanks to everyone who has helped bring this project to life,” Tomos said. “Together, we’re showing how music can make a difference.”
‘Run’ is available now on all streaming platforms with proceeds benefiting Big Moose and The SAFE Foundation.
