Scottish musician MALKA, one of my favourite artists, has gifted fans a festive treat with the release of her first-ever Christmas single, ‘When You’re Here’, available now via Tantrum Records. This follows nearly a year after the success of her critically acclaimed fourth album, Anatomy of Sight.
Known for her unique indie electro-pop sound, MALKA delivers a track that captures the magic of Christmas gatherings with loved ones. Her signature soaring vocals are paired with warm synths, percussive beats, and sing-along hooks, creating a festive anthem that feels both contemporary and timeless. Written, recorded, and produced by MALKA herself, the single encapsulates the joy of connection during the holiday season.
Speaking about the track, MALKA shared her intention to bottle up the nostalgia and spirit of classic Christmas music while adding her modern, indie touch.
A Year of Growth and Recognition
The past year has been momentous for MALKA, also known as Tamara Schlesinger. Beyond her music, she has made significant strides in empowering women and non-binary individuals in the music industry through her initiative Hen Hoose. Founded during lockdown, this collective has provided mentorship, artist development, and training opportunities in audio production and collaborative songwriting for female and non-binary artists across Scotland.
MALKA’s cultural contributions have not gone unnoticed. She was recently honoured in The List’s Hot 100, securing the impressive fourth spot for her work in shaping Scotland’s creative scene. In addition to this recognition, she has been composing music for TV and adverts, as well as honing her craft as a record producer.
‘When You’re Here’ offers fans the first glimpse of MALKA’s latest musical explorations and her ongoing evolution as an artist. With its feel-good vibes and heartfelt message, the single is destined to become a seasonal favourite.
