With her signature blend of soulful melodies, groovy rhythms, and dramatic orchestration, Reece’s live show promises to be a night of heartfelt music and magnetic energy. Reflecting on her album, Reece explains, “The album is an introspective narrative that replicates the kaleidoscope of heightened emotions that a person can feel traversing through relationships in their teens & early twenties. I wanted the album to replicate the different stages of a relationship – from the joys, to the pitfalls, to the breakdowns, to the epiphanies – and the impact they can have on one’s self-esteem.”
Crafting a Distinct Sound
Looking Glass (Live) is a 10-track album that brings together the worlds of Nu-soul, R&B, and jazz. Influenced by the likes of Lauryn Hill, RAYE, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Yebba, Reece’s work stands out for its lush harmonies, melisma, and jazz-inspired cadences. Arranged by co-writer and pianist Jack Drummond-Joy, the album was recorded live at The Lightning Cave Studio and captures the essence of Reece’s orchestral and theatrical approach to music. Drummond-Joy describes the project: “When she sang me the songs, it felt like a piece of theatre; like one giant monologue that needed asides, scene changes, an overture, and the craziest crash-and-burn finale that we could pull off.”
The arrangements, performed by a mix of orchestral instruments, echo Reece’s commitment to authenticity, creating an immersive soundscape that mirrors the highs and lows of emotional experiences. Reece’s ability to transform her personal narratives into universal themes has earned her praise from music critics, including London Gig Guide, which noted, “She is clearly an expert in writing memorable, catchy lyrics and melodies… The atmosphere created by this insanely talented musician was absolutely electric.”
