Seventeen year old, Abi Hudson, recently unveiled her debut single, ‘Fragile Around You’; a lovely track with hints of Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks. She’s been working with Terry Ronald and Steve Anderson and is established on the live circuit so we reckon she is set to be a huge star…
She took the time to answer a few of our questions…
Do you have an earliest musical memory? Was there a record or act that made you each think ‘I want to do this!’?
I remember singing nursery rhymes being my favourite pastime as a toddler. I also remember begging my mum to take me to singing lessons at 9 years old, after listening to Dido on her iPod on repeat for hours.
If we were to look at your MP3 player, is there anything on there you’d rather we didn’t see? Do you have your own stuff on there?
Definitely! I have a lot of cheesy recordings of some of my very first songs and some more recent one-liners that I’ve thought up in the middle of the night and regretted the next morning when I listened to them back.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my music as contemporary pop with a live, throwback feel, as I take my inspiration from a lot of older artists like Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks.
Is there any style of music you just don’t get?
I’ve never been the biggest fan of jazz music honestly, although I understand how difficult it is and I appreciate the level of skill required to be a jazz musician.
Are there any artists you’d really like to collaborate with in the future?
Sia… I think she a great pop artist and vocalist, I’d love to work with her on something, just because I admire her so much.
What’s next for Abi Hudson?
I have the music video for my single coming out soon, so keep an eye out for that! It’s my first official music video, so really exciting!
What question should we have asked you today?
When can you next catch me live…18th January at the Old Queens Head!
